Just a BARREL of Fun!

I'm always on the lookout for games in which all of my grandchildren can play together when visiting. I thought I'd give this a try and sure enough it was a huge hit. One of my darlings has special needs and this game is something they were able to play successfully. It took a few tries to insert the sword vertically and push in all the way but once the Pirate popped out the cause and effect realization kicked in and away we went! We also identified the colors of the swords, the number of swords it took to Pop up the Pirate, etc... The other grand-kids loved it too. They enjoyed the suspense of which sword would 'get' the Pirate. In order to keep all of the kids involved we play where the one who 'pops up the Pirate' receives 1 plastic gold doubloon coin (which I already had on hand). The first player to earn 5 doubloons wins the game. This works better for their ages rather than being eliminated. There are 6 swords of each color (red, blue, yellow, green) about 3 inches long. Be sure to turn the pirate after you push him back in the barrel. This is a Pirate's treasure for the money.

A quick family favorite

The game is easy to use, easy to understand and easy to reset for another round. Most importantly it is enjoyable to play.

Love it!

As a child, my parents bought me "Il Pirata" while we were vacationing in Italy in the 70's. I LOVED it as a child and would play endlessly with it. Being a father of a five-year old, I wondered if this game was still around. Wouldn't you know it? It is! I ordered it and now there are two family members who love it. (The wife doesn't care for games).

It's A Really Fun Game!!

I bought the Pop Up Pirate for my Daycare kids and they absolutely love it! I just bought 4 other games too and this is one of their favorite games. It's so simple to play. Their are 4 different colors of swords, so up to 4 people can play. It's so simple to play. First you put the pirates head in the barrel and then each person takes a turn putting in their color sword very carefully hoping their sword doesn't hit the spring. But, if it does.....POP, goes the pirates head and it really pops out....LOL. It made me scream the first time the head popped on me when I played it with the kids. It's a really fun game!!

Fun, but gets old quickly

This is a great game for young children. However, even my 5 year old now gets bored quickly with this game. When he was younger, the anticipation of waiting for the pirate to pop up made both him and me cower slightly as we put the swords in in anticipation of a pirate surprising us. Now, my younger child likes to play this and he reacts in the same way, which makes it fun, and my 5 year old will play sometimes again now. Sometimes the pirate does not pop, and while this means it is not working perfectly, it is actually funny as we shy away as we put the swords in, expecting something that never happens - it actually adds to the fun, but it does mean that something is not working quite right, which is why it gets 4 stars. Overall though, it is fun for younger children that you want to play games with, just don't expect it to maintain their interest as they get older.
